On Aug. 18th, Grace Life of Senatobia will start a series on Meaningful Membership. At the end of this series we will establish our membership with a special service on October 27th. Steve McAllister, of Anchored in Truth, will be with us for this special day. All members will make a commitment to the Lord and to each other as we enter into this exciting time in the life of our church. Over the past year, our core group has grown and we have seen 10 people profess faith in Christ by being baptized. We have 30 plus people total in our entire group. We rejoice at what the Lord has done and are excited to reach this milestone. We are also thankful to have Grace Life Church of the Shoals as our sponsor church.
In today’s world, many times, church members treat their membership with less commitment than people who are part of a civic organization or a fan club. Meaningless membership has created a situation in which many times 75% of the members of a typical church never attend and are not involved in any other way. By the Grace of God, we hope to reverse this trend by looking at what the Bible says about Christians responsibilities to the Lord and to each other.
Does the word “church” refer to a building in the New Testament? Who can be a member of a church? Are there any pre-requisites or can anyone join? In other words, should something happen in a person’s life before they become a member of a church? When should a person be baptized? Are there commitments that a person makes when they do join a church? Why are there so many inactive members in a typical church? What are the contributing factors to this?
Anyone can attend this series of sermons on Sundays at 11:00 am and join the discussion on Wednesday nights at 6 PM.
There will be opportunity for people to ask questions as we consider, “The message of the church”, “The signs of the church”, “The commitment of the Church” , “The marks of the church”, and “The mission of the church” These sermons will be preached on Sundays and on Wednesday nights these topics will be discussed in our Mid-Week bible study.
At the end of the series, we will have a special Membership Formation service in which the church membership will be established on October 27th.
